Do you think DAE should have a pitot tube cover? Insects find that narrow tube attractive.
The pitot / static system for this PA28 seems to do ok without a pitot cover, maybe that's why most PA28s in Jandakot doesn't have pitot covers on. We'll take a note of this, reassess the situation, and get one if required.
For Cessnas, we will recommend a pitot cover as the opening seems to be much larger.
Notwithstanding the above, pilots should monitor for an increase in airspeed on takeoff run; An aborted takeoff should be CONSIDERED if there's no increase in airspeed observed.
Thank you for your reply. I only brought it up as the previous Piper I flew had a pitot cover provided by the owner, but then again he was pretty fastidious. My eyes are riveted to the ASI on the takeoff roll, so I'd notice if the airspeed did not increase.
